Tora Bora defeats Mush Mush in Virginia tournament
NEW YORK, Mar 7 (Pajhwok Afghan News): Tora Bora defeated Mush Mush! Not in a war at a bowling tournament.
At the sixth edition of the annual Afghan Bowling Tournament this past weekend in the US, team Tora Bora defeated team Mush Mush 760 to 690 points.
Organized by the Afghan Sports Federation, as many as 18 teams participated in the daylong event, which was attended by sports-loving Afghans from Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC area.
Wayce Baber and Sohaila Bobi both from the Tora Bora team were declared as the most valuable player in men and women category respectively, an official of the Afghan Sports Federation told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Each team consisted of five players with a minimum number of two women. This was done so as to give it a family atmosphere at the tournament. A large number of Afghan families from around the area came to view the tournament, which was held in Fairfax County, Virginia.
After the preliminary round in which all 18 teams participated, 10 teams moved to the second round and six to the quarter-finals.
The apex sports body of expatriate Afghans in the US, Afghan Sports Federation organizes various sports events and tournament every year, popular among them bring soccer, volleyball and chess. In January, 2007 it started the first national basketball league.
