Mega Afghan sports meet outside S. Asia from tomorrow
NEW YORK, July 4 (Pajhwok Afghan News):
The largest-every Afghan sports meet outside of the war-hit country begins in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area from tomorrow.
Several thousand Afghans living in various parts of the United States and Canada are expected to participate in the four-day mega event held in and around Washington DC from July 5 to 8.
Organised by the Afghan Sports Federation, the meet is aptly called Afghan Cup 2007. Several Afghan teams will vie for honours in three disciples - soccer, basketball and volleyball.
Afghan teams from California, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Canada and Virginia are scheduled to participate in the event, which also includes picnic, food and live music.
The mega event will conclude with a trophy presentation to champions and a special event concert performed by our talented singer singers Habib Qaderi, Ajmal Ghani, president of the Afghan Sports Federation, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
This year we are celebrating our 10th Annual Tournament and we are implementing our long-awaited policy of an All Afghan Player, Ghani said.
