Virginia Afghans United
- Virginia All Star Basketball Team

As part of player development program, ASF has organized and united all top ABL players in a 3 month training program, with professional coaching staff supervision. The newly Virginia United team has also been fully sponorsed to play in local Division 1 Basketball league, and to participate in other national and international tournaments.
This program is designed to train, encourage and advance current Afghan talent pool in Virginia (East Coast) by providing the logistics and moral support our young Afghan athlets deserve.
Afghan Youth Basketball Development Program

As an extension to Virginia Afghan United program, ASF has organized a youth clinic program to be lanched this October. This program is designed for our Afghan youth, to provide the opportunity and ability to encourage, develop and advance their basketball abilities. The program is free of charge and ASF encourages everyone to register their young ones ASAP. Space is limited!Ju
Afghan Soccer League (ASL) Spring 2008 Season
Comes to a Dramatic Conclusion

The Championship game between Afghan United and Ariana started around 8:30pm on June 26th and ended with penalty kicks just before 11pm.
The game began with a special tribute to “Farid Abbasi”, the 22 years old player from Afghan united team whose promising life was cut short three weeks ago.
The game was tied 2-2 after the regulation and 10 minutes half overtime. Finally, Afghan United prevailed the game 4-3 in a penalty kick, The game was cheered by a crowed of over 700 spectators and Fans.
Congratulations to both Ariana & Afghan United. This season’s cup was dedicated to Farid Abbasi.

Afghan11 wins the Afghan American Sports Association's
Memorial Day Soccer Tournament 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP
in New Jersey, beating the Pamir Toronto team 2-0.
Team Ariana of Virginia
placed 3rd. Afghan United of
Virginia placed 3rd also in the Afghan Football Support
Organization in Northern California. Congratulations to
all the teams!

Afghan Bowling Classic 2008
Afghan Sports Federation hosted it's 5th Annual Afghan Bowling Classic on Sunday March 16th, 2008. Over 16 teams participated
in this event. Team Ayienda won the Championship Cup defeating team Knock-Out with score of 716 to 704. Congratulations to all
the teams!

Afghan Paralympics team off to Beijing

Afghanistan's five member Paralympics delegation left for China today in order to participate in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics games. The Paralympics are elite sport events for athletes from six different disability groups. The Paralympics are usually held after the Olympics and so this year, it will be from September 6th to September 15th. The Paralympic Games are governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The official sponsor of this year's Afghan Paralympics delegation is the Alokozay Foundation.

Rohullah Nikpai Receives Hero Welcome

Rohullah Nikpai, the first Afghan to win a medal in the Olympic games was given a red carpet welcome today (August 28, 2008). Nikpai was greeted at the airport by vice president Karim Khalili. He was then driven from the airport to Afghanistan's national stadium in Kabul where he was greeted by a crowd of 5,000 cheering fans. The crowd chanted slogans such as "Nikpai, the pride of Afghanistan", and "Long live Afghanistan". Vice president Khalili stated that "it is a matter of pride for all of us, for the government and the people of Afghanistan that this war-ravaged country was able to win a medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games". The event was even broadcasted on state television. After winning his medal, Nikpai stated: "I hope this medal can be a message of peace in Afghanistan".
