Afghan Basketball League Spring 2009 Season
- April 22, 2009

Ten teams would compete for the Spring 2009 Championship Trophy. Defending champions Buzkashi Ballers are set to repeat their quest for the Championship title while other teams are eager to dethrone them of the title. Let the games begin!

AFGHANCUP2009
The 12th annual Afghan Cup celebration is scheduled from 10th to July 12th, 2009. It is the biggest Afghan sporting and cultural event outside of Afghanistan, gathering hundreds of Afghan athelets, families and thousands of spectators from across the North America, Europe, Asia and Afghanistan.The games would take place in Howison Park in Prince William County, Hoop Magic in Fairfax County and the Championship games in Maryland Soccerplex Stadium of Washington DC metropolitan area.

Buzkashi Are the New ABL Champs!
- Dec. 15th, 2008

After an exciting 4th season of the Afghan Basketball League, team Buzkashi prevails as the league Champions. 10 teams participated for over 2 month long season where on Sunday December 14th, the Final Four teams met for an all out battle for the Championship. The #1 seed Buzkashi defeated the #4 seed Lhmar and the #2 seed Khudrat defeated #3 seed Top Gunners. The two top ranked teams played an exciting Championship game where the lead changed constantly. With Buzkashi leading, the score was 27-26 at the half. The second half was no different until the last 3 minutes of the game where Ali Noorzad of Buzkashi took off on offensive fireworks and ended up defeating the former ABL Champions, Khudrat. Ali Noorzaad was also named the MVP of the finals. Congratulations to all the teams participating and we are looking forward to season 5, to start in mid April, 2009.

Afghan Youth Basketball Development Program

July 21st, 2008

As an extension to Virginia Afghan United program, ASF has organized a youth clinic program to be lanched this October. This program is designed for our Afghan youth with the opportunity and ability to encourage, develop and advance their basketball abilities. The program is free of charge and ASF encourages everyone to register their young ones ASAP. Space is limited!

Proud Afghans make emotional return


The smiles on the faces of Afghanistan's basketball players said it all as they paraded their national flag during a lap of honor following a victorious return to international competition. Afghanistan had just beaten Hong Kong, China in their opening match at the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006, following years of exile from the basketball scene.
